In New Zealand security windows are primarily used for secure containment of persons who represent a risk to themselves or others, i.e. prisons, police stations, courthouses and other secure containment areas.   Steel is the natural material of construction because of its strength and when coupled with appropriate glazing is the only security system with universal acceptance.

The common glazing applications include various anti-bandit laminates or special polycarbonates (nominally MR10) designed especially for unbreachable security areas.

Southern Steel Windows have a great deal of experience in security window supply and have provided steel window units to most of New Zealand’s Prisons including, Invercargill, Paparua Christchurch women’s, Rimutaka and Waikeria along with many police stations and courthouses.

Security windows are not solely limited to inmate enclosure and can also include unusual applications such as zoological enclosures and ballistic resistant applications.
